BRISTOL'S aerospace sector is set for a boost after the government announced its new industrial strategy.
Business Secretary Vince Cable said yesterday that efforts would be focused on areas where Britain is believed to have a competitive advantage over its rivals, including aerospace. Support could include a new government-backed bank to increase lending to businesses.
The strategy will also include a drive to increase the number of female engineers employed by Rolls-Royce, including at its aero engine factory in Patchway.
The defence giant has been given a share of a £67 million funding pot to set up its own training scheme.
It will work with local schools and set up a mentoring scheme.
Treasury Minister Matt Hancock told the Post just three per cent of Britain's engineers are women.
