DRAGON'S Den businesswoman Deborah Meaden is backing a Bristol museum's bid to be named as one of the best in the country.
M shed is one of ten museums in the running for the prestigious 2012 Art Fund Prize, which comes with a £100,000 prize fund and the title of "museum of the year".
Ms Meaden, who appears on the popular television programme where entrepreneurs present their business ideas and bid for financial support, said: "I have visited M shed and there's no doubt about it, it is a fantastic museum.
"I'm therefore delighted to personally back M shed's bid to win the prestigious 2012 Art Fund Prize.
"M shed is new, it's fun, it's challenging, it's bold and best of all, M shed uses innovative and creative ways to connect people with their past, the present and the future.
"As a businesswoman, I have a keen eye for what people want, what works and what will be a success.
"M shed is already a success story in its own right, having attracted more than 500,000 visitors in the ten months since it opened, and being ranked among the best museums in the country.
"M shed has huge business potential too, with opportunities for corporate hire of the roof-top terrace and conference room, with spectacular views across Bristol's historic harbour. I wish M shed continued success and will follow the outcome of the Art Fund Prize."
As previously reported, people who have visited the M shed are being encouraged to tell judges why they think it should win the coveted title.
Head of Bristol's museum service, Julie Finch, said she was delighted to have such a high-profile backer for the M shed's bid.
"Deborah comes with wealth of business experience and expertise as well as a passion for Bristol," she said. "M shed has already attracted accolades for its innovate approach to telling the story of Bristol.
"Being among the ten longlisted museums for the Art Fund Prize is another measure of M shed's continuing success."
Judges have already visited the M shed and in May will announce whether it has made it through to the final four museums on the shortlist.
The winning museum will be declared on June 17.
People who want to share their views about the museum with the judges can visit www. artfundprize.org.uk until April 22.
