A classic frightfest
They say Halloween is the new Christmas, and local cinemas are certainly in the mood for celebrating this spookiest of nights.
Over at the Cube, they can't even wait for All Hallow's Eve. On Saturday, October 27, Rocka's Roadhouse girls return for an evening of film, music and fun in Rocka's Roadhouse Creepshow. Expect rockabilly, psychobilly and garage punk, plus a horror classic, a special appearance by the Bloody Bones sideshow act, and plenty of gruesome surprises. They've even got prizes on offer for the scariest costume.
There's more audience participation on offer when that old favourite The Rocky Horror Picture Show returns to the Vue Cribbs and Longwell Green cinemas on Halloween itself.
Those who prefer something properly scary will find two screenings of John Carpenter's original 1978 Halloween at the Cinema De Lux, while Cineworld has the new extended cut of The Shining.
Down at M shed, they're showing Neil Jordan's The Company of Wolves to accompany the current Real & Imagined Lives exhibition.
And if you're brave enough to watch a scary movie in a creepy location, head over to Arnos Vale Cemetery, where The Woman in Black is showing. There's free popcorn for those who turn up in fancy dress.
Children aren't being neglected either. If your brood loved Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, they'll also enjoy his earlier stop-motion animation Corpse Bride (pictured). This is back on screen as the Watershed's October Cinekids selection on the afternoon of Saturday, October 27. Diminutive gorehounds also get to celebrate the Day of the Dead with a puppet workshop afterwards.
